folk CRM is built to help you manage specific workflows for your relationships, such as prospecting, pipeline management and keeping track of existing clients. To map out these workflows, folk uses groups. A group is a database made up of contacts (people & companies). They work as categories to organize different type of contacts to leverage them in different workflows. A person/company can belong to zero, one or more groups, depending on your business needs. Groups can have different types of visibility:
  • Private (default): Only the group owner can see the group and its contents.
  • Shared: Only the group owner and selected workspace members can see the group and its contents.
  • Shared with everyone: Any workspace member can see the group and its contents.
When using the API, you will be able to see only the groups you have access to: your private groups, the shared groups you are a member of, and the ones shared with everyone.
Workspace owners and admins are an exception: List groups returns every group of the workspace for them, including private groups they are not a member of. Listing a group this way does not grant access to its contents — reading its members, custom fields or contacts still requires access to that specific group.
You can create custom fields in each group to add and track the relevant data on your contacts. Custom fields are proper to the group and are not shared across groups. This way, you only track what matters regarding your current workflow.
